Mark Nowak is the author of Shut Up Shut Down (New York Times  “Editor’s Choice),” Coal Mountain Elementary (which Howard Zinn called “a stunning educational tool”), and Social Poetics (forthcoming), all from Coffee House Press. He is a Guggenheim fellow (2010) and a Lannan Literary Fellow (2015). A native of Buffalo, Nowak directs the Worker Writers School, currently in its eighth year of collaboration with PEN America.
