Grandfather of two dies in mining accident
BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has confirmed a grandfather of two has died at its Blackwater Mine this morning.
The company says the accident involved a raptor transporter vehicle.
“Authorities are currently on site investigating the incident and we are providing our full support,” BMA said in a statement.
“We are providing our assistance both to the family of our colleague, in addition to BMA employees and contractors at the operation.
“The deceased was a father of two and a grandfather to two.
“We are also conducting our own investigations to understand how this incident could have occurred and to ensure every action is taken to prevent something similar in future.”
Operations on site have temporarily ceased.
11:40 PM Reports: Miner killed at Blackwater mine after rollover
IT IS believed that there has been a fatality at BMA’s Blackwater Mine this morning at about 7.30am.
Blackwater and Emerald police are believed to be attending the scene.
Reports of the fatality are yet to be verified.
A BMA spokesperson has confirmed an incident occured at the mine this morning.
“BMA confirms there has been a vehicle rollover at our Blackwater Mine this morning. Emergency response teams are responding at present,” the spokesperson said.
“As a precaution, operations on site have temporarily ceased. An investigation into the incident is underway and it has been reported to the Queensland Mines Inspectorate.”
