Miner dies at Cloud Peak Energy’s Spring Creek Mine
A miner died Monday evening at Spring Creek Mine in Montana, Cloud Peak Energy reported this morning.
The coal company described the death as a “single-haul truck incident” and said it occurred around 7 p.m. No other injuries were reported.
The Mine Safety and Health Administration said a 230-ton haul truck went through a berm at the mine, killing the driver. No other information was available.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. MSHA officials and the Big Horn County Sheriff were notified and on site, Cloud Peak said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, co-workers and friends,” said Colin Marshall, Cloud Peak president and CEO.
The Spring Creek Mine is 35 miles from Sheridan. The fatality is the second this month at a Powder River Basin coal mine. A contractor died at Peabody Energy’s North Antelope Rochelle Mine on June 4.
