KCM Miner Killed in Rock Fall

A MINER has died in an underground accident at Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) mine in Chililabombwe. Copperbelt Commissioner of Police, Joyce Kasosa confirmed the fatal accident which occurred in the early hours of yesterday at 1350 level and named the victim as Anthony Chunza, 35, a crash operator. Ms Kasosa said the deceased of house number 139 Kakosa Township in Chililabombwe was suspected to have been hit by copper ore while working at 1,350 level around 01:30 hours. She said the deceased after being hit fell on the conveyor belt which was on its way to the concentrator. Ms Kasosa said the deceased miner’s body was only found at 1,390 level at a place called Bin Vibra around 02:30 hours. “The body was found with multiple injuries and was taken to Kakosa Hospital mortuary,” Ms Kasosa said. KCM management when contacted said they were preparing a Press statement on the accident by press time.
