Five killed in Indonesia coal mine explosion

At least five people were killed Friday in a coal mine explosion in Indonesia’s Sumatra province.

“The explosion occurred in the afternoon,” Moch. Hernanto, spokesman of the national search and rescue office told Xinhua.

The number of victims might rise as some workers remained trapped in the mine, the spokesman said.

The office has sent 24 rescue personnel to the scene, he said.
