Miner dead at Harmony Gold mine
Johannesburg – A miner at Harmony Gold’s Kusasalethu mine near Carletonville has died in a mining accident, the company said on Tuesday.
“One employee was fatally injured, the other employee sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to hospital,” spokeswoman Henrika Basterfield said.
A materials handling accident was to blame, the company said in a statement. Information about the accident was not yet available and investigations were underway.
Harmony chief executive Graham Briggs and his management team expressed their deepest condolences to the members of the man’s family, Basterfield said.
