Miner killed in Saline County, Illinois mine accident identified

SALINE COUNTY, Ill. – One person is dead after a deadly mine accident in Saline County, Illinois.

The accident happened just after 12:15 Tuesday afternoon at the Wildcat Hills Mine, near Eldorado, Illinois.

Officals responded to the scene, and they pronounced Nathanial D. Clarida of Eldorado dead around 2:15 p.m.  Mine Safety and Health Administration officials say the 35-year-old miner was hit and killed by a ram car moving through a ventilation curtain.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday.  The preliminary cause of death is blunt force trauma.

Wildcat Hills Mine has been ordered closed while an investigation takes place.

Funeral arrangments are pending at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
