West Rand miner killed (South Africa)
Johannesburg – A Harmony Gold miner was killed at the Kusasalethu plant in Carletonville on Monday, the mining company said.
Mine spokesman Henrika Besterfield said the worker died in a blasting accident.
“Investigations are currently underway to establish the cause of the accident. All drilling operations in the immediate area have been stopped,” said Besterfield.
Company CEO Graham Briggs extended his condolences to the miner’s family.
Another worker was killed at the mine’s Evander plant in Mpumalanga last week.
Harmony said the man was repairing a spillage skip on Thursday afternoon when the accident occurred.
The company was investigating.
