Miner dies at OKD’s Karvina mine
A miner has died following a rock fall at the Karvina mine which is operated by New World Resources’ Czech subsidiary OKD.
The accident happened 980 metres underground during the Monday to Tuesday night shift.
The company said it was not caused by a tremor or a gas explosion.
NWR has expressed its deepest condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased miner.
An investigative committee – comprising members of the Ostrava Mining Authority, Karvina mine management, OKD management and the OKD trade union in cooperation with police of the Czech Republic – is now conducting a full inquiry into the event.
