Worker at Fort Knox gold mine dies in fall

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Company officials say a 39-year-old worker at the Fort Knox gold mine northeast of Fairbanks has died in a fall.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says Michael Murray was killed Saturday while performing his regular duties in the primary crusher area.

Murray had worked at the mine for more than one year. He was a mill operator.

The News-Miner says an investigation of the accident is under way.

The mine is owned by Canadian-based Kinross Inc. and is operated by Fairbanks Gold Mining, Inc.
