Central China Mine Blast Kills 6; 3 Still Missing

A coal mine gas explosion killed six workers and left three others missing in central China’s Hunan Province Friday afternoon, local authorities said.

The explosion occurred at around 12: 36 p.m. at the Jinyue No. 2 Mine in Jinlian Village, Lengshuijiang City, said the city’s Party chief Liu Xiaolong.

Dozens of rescuers are stilling trying to locate the missing miners, Liu said.

Rescuers said the mine was legal. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.

The Lengshuijiang government has ordered all mines in the city to halt production for safety inspections.
