Coal Miner Killed In Truck Accident At Harlan Mine
A 32-year-old contract employee of the Rex-Strip Coal Mine in Harlan County died early Tuesday morning when the service truck he was driving went out of control, traveled down a service road and overturned.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Rhett Mosley, of Perry County was in route to service equipment that was located at the end of the service road. The accident occurred at 12:05 a.m. There were no other injuries reported. Rex-Strip Mine is owned by Rex Coal Co. Inc.
Investigators with the Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing were on the scene most of the morning and will be conducting interviews tomorrow. The mine has been closed until further notice.
This is the seventh mine-related fatality in Kentucky this year.
