Miner dies in rockfall at Harmony’s Phakisa mine

A miner died in a rockfall at Harmony Gold Mining Co’s Phakisa mine in the Free State on Saturday morning (19 June).

Harmony said the incident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. 2,100 metres below the surface.

Management together with the representatives of the Department of Mineral Resources have launched investigations into the incident.

Harmony’s chief executive Graham Briggs and his management team have expressed their sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and those affected by the incident.
