Four Dead In Southwest China Colliery Gas Outburst

CHONGQING (China), March 26 (Bernama) — Four people were confirmed dead and three others remained missing after Thursday’s colliery gas outburst in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, China’s Xinhua news agency reported, citing local authorities Friday. The accident occurred at about 5 p.m. when seven miners were working at Jiuli Coal Mine in Fengjie County, the publicity department of the county committee of the Communist Party of China said in a press release. After a night of forced ventilation, rescuers were able to enter the pit at daybreak and found four dead bodies in the shaft, it said. Rescue work continued Friday. The mine, with an annual output of 20,000 tonnes, is privately-owned. Its owner has been held by police for investigation.
