Miner dies at Buffelsfontein gold mine
A miner has died at Simmers & Jack’s Buffelsfontein gold mine, the company said on Friday. Hydraulic prop team leader Lebajoa Takana was killed in a fall of ground incident at the Buffelsfontein operations in North West on Thursday. The incident took place at the mine’s Number 5A Shaft on 71 level, some 2154m below surface, the company said in a statement. Drilling and blasting operations at the shaft have been suspended. “We will be presenting to the principal inspector of the department of mineral resources to satisfy him that remedial actions to prevent such an incident from occurring have been put in place,” said Gordon Miller, chief executive of Simmers.
