Miner dies after blast

A miner from Implats’ Rustenburg operations has died after he was caught in a methane explosion last week, the company said on Monday. Bongakale Motshode, a scraper winch operator, died in hospital on Sunday night, said a statement extending sympathy to his family and friends. Two of his colleagues who were injured, were still in a critical condition in hospital. The accident happened in the Number 14 shaft on Wednesday and operations were suspended in that shaft to allow for an investigation into the cause of the blast.
