China coal mine gas blast kills at least 25, another 20 miners trapped

BEIJING, May 30 (Reuters) – A gas explosion at a coal mine in southwestern China has killed at least 25 people, state media said on Saturday, the latest in a series of colliery accidents across the country. Another 20 miners were trapped underground after the blast, which happened late Saturday morning at a state-owned mine in Chongqing municipality, the official Xinhua news agency said. China’s coal pits, the world’s deadliest, killed about 3,000 miners in 2008.
