Coal mine blast kills 12 in Iran

A blast in a coal mine near the town of Zarand in southern Iran killed 12 people on Sunday, the state news agency IRNA reported, AFP informs. The explosion at the mine in Kerman province, which happened at around midday, was caused by a leakage of methane gas, Zarand governor Hassan Rahmani told IRNA, adding that 12 miners were killed. “Two victims have been been taken out and the rest will be excavated in a few hours,” Rahmani said.
