Another fatal accident at AngloGold Ashanti mine

AngloGold Ashanti has announced another accident, leading to a fatality, this time at its Moab Khotsong mine, near Klersdorp in South Africa. On April 14, 2009 another miner lost his life at the Obuasi mine of AngloGold Ashanti in Ghana. The company announced the fatality in a press statement which said, Mr John Asamoah, an employee of Obuasi’s MBC underground development contractor, was fatally injured in an underground vehicle accident when the scoop he was operating struck a sidewall.” Mr. Asamoah subsequently died. In a press statement released Friday April 17, 2009 and copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, AngloGold Ashanti said, Patrick Sinono, a Miner’s Assistant at Moab Khotsong mine, died while working in the mine. It said “Mr. Sinono was barring at a stope face on 88 level when he was fatally injured in a fall of ground accident.” The accident according to the statement happened around 07:00hrs Friday morning, and it added that no other employee was injured in the accident.
