At least 7 die in China coal mine flood
JIXI, China, April 6 (UPI) — At least seven miners died and five more were trapped after an underground coal mine flooded in northeastern China, authorities said. More than 150 rescuers employing a half dozen pumps were trying to reach those unaccounted for, Xinhua reported. “The chances of their survival are slim but the government will go all out to save them so long as there is a glimmer of hope,” said Fang Dongchu, vice secretary-general of the Jixi municipal government. The accident occurred early Saturday at the Jinli Coal mine in Heilongjiang province, the state-run news agency said. Six workers escaped.
