Five miners die in Philippines

Five miners died of suffocation in a mining tunnel in Opol town, Misamis Oriental province, Tuesday evening. The fatalities were identified as Roy Baron, Randy Baron, Dodong Avon, Bryan Quijada, and Jay-Ar Tarimban. Police said the victims died of suffocation while recovering a submersible pump inside the mining tunnel of the Manalo Mining Corp. in Sitio Tagculot, Barangay Nangkaon. A sixth miner identified as Alberto Llamera was able to get out alive and call for help. Rescue teams rushed to the tunnel, but failed to recover the victims on time.
