Mine blast kills 2, wounds 6
TAEBAEK, South Korea, Feb. 4 (UPI) – An explosion at a Taebaek, South Korea, coal mine killed two people and injured six, police say.
Around 8 p.m. Friday, a gas explosion occurred when nine miners were working in a site about 2 miles from the entrance of the mine.
Officer Chang Jae-koo told Yonhap News Agency the wounded are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. Two are being treated for burns.
One of the nine miners was uninjured and walked away from the explosion.
Officials are trying to investigate the cause of the explosion; however, the mine is still inaccessible because of the remaining toxic gas.
