Illegal miner killed underground

Johannesburg – A man died while he was mining illegally in Springs, east of Johannesburg, Gauteng police said on Saturday.

Police received a call on Friday at 11am that a rock had fallen on a man while he was digging on land belonging to Aurora Gold mine, Captain Johannes Ramphora said.

He said rescue workers were still trying to retrieve his body , which was believed to be trapped about 100 metres underground.
