12 trapped after coal mine floods in SW China
GUIYANG - Rescuers confirmed that 12 miners were still trapped after a coal mine flooded in Southwest China’s Guizhou Province earlier Sunday, local authorities said.
By 6:30 pm, rescuers have received strong life signs from the trapped in the shaft of Fuhong Coal Mine, said Luo Yi, a spokesman with the local government.
The accident occurred at about 9 am in Jinyang New District of Guiyang City when 13 people were working in the shaft, and one managed to escape, the district government spokesman said.
Efforts are being made to pump water out of the coal mine.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
